Everyone is familiar with the qualities of marble; it's a compact material that has erratic veining and a unique appearance. It does have its drawbacks, however, and this is especially true when it's used in a kitchen environment. As a relatively porous material, marble is not completely impermeable. This means that it's possible for it to become stained through the absorption of some types of fat, acids and certain cleaning products.
