Fishing School Washington, DC
Episode 708
Air Date: Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010
The Fishing School was started more than 25 years ago by retired police officer Lewis with a $1,000 loan from his wife. The Fishing School is a nationally recognized youth development organization that provides children and families with academic and parental support through two community-based centers located in Wards 6 and 7 in Washington, D.C. The philosophy of The Fishing School is inspired by the adage, “If you give a man a fish, you will feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will feed himself for a lifetime.” The Fishing School’s after school and summer programs have helped over 2,500 students.
Cosentino, the maker of Silestone natural quartz, joined with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to provide countertop surfaces, fabrication and installation with hands-on involvement from Counter Intelligence at the Tripp family and The Fishing School build sites. The Tripp family and The Fishing School share the same mission, and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has brought them together through this massive build project.
The Fishing School received Orange Cool in the Basement Kitchen and Unsui in the Second Floor Eat-in Kitchen.
