Bill and Adair Grommesh manage HOPE Inc., and have transformed the Moorhead-based non-profit into a year-round program to promote independence for children and young adults with disabilities. Their 10-year-old son Garrett Grommesh was born with spina bifida. He possesses an indomitable spirit and a clear sense of his own limitless possibilities. Garrett has proven that he can do anything that able-bodied children do. He has spoken at several fundraisers, raised money for charities and nonprofits and helped to create a handicap accessible playground.

Garrett has a 12-year-old sister, Peighton, who has asthma, congenital eye disorder called Axenfeld- Riegers syndrome, reflux, lymphocytic colitis, short stature, pancreatic enzyme insufficiency, and takes 16 pills a day so her body can break down, digest, and absorb the necessary nutrients. Both Garrett and Peighton overwhelm those around them with joy. They embody exactly what they want the world to understand: that just because kids might have a physical challenge, it doesn´t mean they can´t attack each day with power, heart and hope.
