Powell Family Buffalo, NY
Episode 715
Air Date: Sunday, Jan.24, 2010
In 2002, Delores Powell, a Jamaican immigrant, mother of four, and community activist ventured to Buffalo, NY, in search of affordable housing. When she first arrived, she rented an apartment for one year before finding what she considered to be a jackpot: a six bedroom “fixer upper.” Unable to afford a lawyer, Delores struck a deal with the homeowner. Unfortunately, the seller failed to disclose the fact that the house was on the city’s demolition list. Despite the work and repairs that Delores and her four children poured into their home over the past five years, the house was deemed unlivable and was slated for demolition. With homelessness on the horizon, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition stepped in. In just seven days, EMHE team leader Ty Pennington, the design team, and hundreds of volunteers rebuilt the crumbling home, providing The Powell family with the solid, sustainable foundation, needed to build and support their dreams.

ECO by Cosentino (www.ecobycosentino.com), an innovative new line of eco-friendly surfacing material composed of 75% recycled material is proud to have been selected as the official countertop of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’s latest home renovation.
